Optical glass strengthening is to exchange sodium ions on the glass surface with potassium ions in molten potassium nitrate salt, because the radius of potassium ions is larger than that of sodium ions, and potassium ions replace the sodium ions in the glass, causing the surface to "crowd" and expand , forming a compressive stress layer, so as to achieve the purpose of increasing the strength of the glass surface. In the process of glass strengthening, the purity of potassium nitrate has a great influence on ion exchange. If the purity of potassium nitrate is not enough, there will be more impurities such as sodium, calcium, and money. It will interfere with potassium and sodium ion exchange and affect the glass strengthening effect. Therefore, potassium nitrate for optical glass requires very high purity.
